CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pantene and Seventeen Magazine have teamed up to host the first-ever National Donate Your Hair Day on April 27, benefiting the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program (#beautifullengths). This will be the first annual day of giving where people nationwide are encouraged to cut and donate their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

Created in 2006, Pantene Beautiful Lengths inspires people to grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to create free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. To date, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has received more than 311,000 hair donations from generous men, women, and children. The American Cancer Society distributes the wigs through their nationwide network of wig banks at no cost. Since the start of the program, more than 18,000 real-hair wigs have been provided to female cancer patients.

In celebration of the inaugural National Donate Your Hair Day, Pantene and Seventeen will host an event at the Rita Hazan Salon in New York City. Pantene Celebrity Hair Stylist Danilo will be at the salon to support the hair donors and offer makeovers. In addition to the New York City event, salons nationwide will be participating by hosting their own events and offering discounted or free haircuts to those donating on this day. National Donate Your Hair Day participants are encouraged to show off their new, feel-good cuts by tweeting at @seventeenmag using the following hashtag: #17donateyourhair.

The April issue of Seventeen, on newsstands now, includes a special feature on the ultimate tricks for a great cut so everyone can head into the salon with confidence. One lucky Seventeen reader will win a trip to attend the NYC event. For details on how to enter, check out

“We are continually impressed by the dedication people nationwide have shown to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. We want to kick off an annual day that will capture the attention, and the hair, of the nation in a big way,” says Kevin Crociata, Marketing Director of North American Hair Care at Procter & Gamble. “We want to celebrate the hundreds of thousands of people who have already donated their hair to this amazing cause and encourage many more to donate on this day. We are thrilled that Seventeen Magazine has partnered with us to support National Donate Your Hair Day.”

The partnership between Pantene and Seventeen Magazine is a natural fit. Seventeen Magazine encourages young women to have confidence in who they are through their insightful features each month. This is this same message that the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program and National Donate Your Hair Day convey – that with one small act, anyone can help a woman regain her confidence when undergoing cancer treatment.

“Our 13 million readers love their hair, but it’s even more important for them to give back in the world,” says Ann Shoket, Editor-in-Chief of Seventeen Magazine. “We are thrilled to partner with Pantene on such an important program. If you can’t donate hair, you can organize a cutting event at your local salon or just hold the hand of friend as she cuts her hair. Every action, large or small, can make a huge difference in the life of a woman battling cancer.”

The requirements to donate hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths are:

1. Each hair donation must be at least 8 inches long.

2. Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.

3. Gray hair is difficult to use in the wig-making process, so hair may not be more than 5% gray at the time of donation.
